About TIES-RTN

From the 1st October 2006, the TIES Research Training Network will involve twelve early-stage researchers (ESRs, or PhD students) and two experienced researchers (ERs, or Post-docs) in the general TIES project. It will run until September 2010.

The data and expertise resources accessible throughout the TIES network will provide these young researchers with unique opportunities to enhance their skills and competencies in a multidisciplinary environment.

Each of the young researchers will develop an own research project within the more general TIES themes. Trained-by-doing, the young researchers will also be offered training activities in close cooperation with the training committee of the IMISCOE network. As part of the requirements, PhDs and Post-Docs will participate in summer schools and training activities, they will take part in the project plan workshop and methodology seminars and defend their research before an international committee that includes senior members of TIES.

The TIES RTN will produce fourteen well-trained young specialists in the field of migration and integration. This should form an essential step towards creating a 'critical mass' of highly qualified scholars with pan-European orientations. They would reinforce the current TIES efforts to boost research development in this field while overcoming the barriers and limitations in scope that still arise from national institutional boundaries.

The TIES RTN is financed with the support of the Marie Curie Programme of the European Commission.
